Divide the jelly roll into sets of three: light, medium, and dark strips. Sew these three strips together, press it open, then subcut it into 6 1/2″ squares. For the background square, make it 1″ bigger, cut it diagonally from both directions, then put each into the four sides of the square. Sew the top and the bottom first, then the two sides. Press the block open afterward. Repeat these steps until you have enough blocks for your quilt top.
Once you have your quilt blocks, assemble them into four patches and sew. Then, lay the quilt top into 4 across by 4 down. Sew the 4 patches together to make the rows, then sew those rows together to complete the quilt top.
