In this step by step tutorial, Moonkin Stitchery will teach you how to do this quilt in just a day. Whether you’re a beginner or a skilled quilter, I’m sure you’ll love making this quilt project. Learn how to make it by watching the video tutorial below for the step by step instructions.
Cut the fat quarter into forty-two 2 1/2″ squares, then for the layer cakes, cut one 2 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ rectangle followed by one 7 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ rectangle. Once everything is cut, take one 2 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ rectangle and one 2 1/2″ accent square. On the wrong side of the square, draw a line from corner to corner, then place them right sides together on the right of the rectangle. Sew directly on the line, then cut a 1/4″ away from the sewn line. Press open afterwards.
Lastly, take the 2 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ rectangle, piece them, then sew it to the bottom of the 7 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ to complete the quilt block. Repeat these steps until you have all your 42 quilt blocks. Once you have all your blocks, lay them, rotating each to 90 degrees in a 6″ x 7″ block layout. Sew the blocks together to form rows, then sew those rows together to complete the quilt top.
