Whenever I’m stressed or I simply want to pass the time, I quilt away, and I feel so much better right after I finish a project. It’s a very fulfilling and fun activity that I can do every week if I have the time. There are a lot of projects that I can try to learn online but probably my favorite teacher and creator is Carol Thelen on YouTube!
RELATED: Easy Spirals Quilt Block Tutorial
She is just a great person and almost all of her tutorials contain instructions that are very easy to follow and the demonstrations are not that complicated which makes it the best tutorial for beginners. But what makes this even better is that it comes with a free pattern so if you’re worried about messing this project up, then forget that, because I’m sure you can get this perfectly even on your first try.
Step 1
Download the pattern, cut the fabrics according to the instructions, and start piecing the first block unit. Get the black and white strips and arrange them horizontally with the white strip in the center and the black strips on the top and bottom. Stitch them together, press the seams, and proceed to piece the remaining black and white strips the same way.
Step 2
Now, get the small black and white squares, then arrange them alternately in 3 rows with 3 squares each, then arrange the first row with a black square on the left, a white square in the center, and another black square on the right.

Step 3
Follow through that order alternately or refer to the video tutorial and pattern guide, then start stitching them together, and press the seams as you go. Once done piecing all block units, start arranging them together as shown in the video, then stitch them per row, and the rows to each other. Press the seams as you go and you’re done!
