Materials:

  • 60-degree ruler (or a regular one with a 60-degree marking)
  • dark colored fabric
  • medium colored fabric
  • light colored fabric
  • rotary cutter
  • mat

Directions:

Step 1

To start, cut one light-colored 3″ inch strip x width of fabric and two dark-colored 2 & 1/2″ strips. Sew them together with the light fabric in the middle. Next, cut one 3″ strip c width of fabric in a light color and two 2 & 1/2″ strips in a medium color. Sew them together with the light fabric in the middle also. Cut both pieces at a 60-degree angle in opposite directions and cut the strips of fabric at 2 & 1/2″ intervals. (Check every few strips if the 60-degree angle is accurate and adjust if necessary).

Step 2

Now, trim off the first unit in the opposite direction to the previous rectangle. Cut strips again at 2 & 1/2″ intervals. After you all have your strip set, cut them again in half at a 60-degree angle. Start assembling them once you’ve cut all your pieces (see the picture below). Once you’re satisfied with the layout, sew them in strips, then sew the strips together. (Each tumbling block is about 4 & 1/2″ x 3 & 7/8″)
