This crispy and delicious chicken recipe by Tastemade on YouTube is one of my favorite go-to recipes when it comes to fried chicken. It is super easy to make and so flavorful, plus, this can be shared with your whole family, and taste absolutely yummy when served with some fries or coleslaw! Most of the ingredients required in this recipe are so simple and some of them might already be available in your kitchen. Try it out now and see for yourself, you won’t regret it for sure!

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole small chicken, spatchcocked

Spiced Flour

  • 1¾ cups of flour
  • 2½ tbsp of cornflour
  • 2¼ tsp of garlic granules
  • 2¼ tsp of salt
  • 2¼ tsp of chili powder

Dry Marinade

  • ½ cup of cornflour
  • 1 tsp of baking powder
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1 tsp of chopped thyme
  • 1 tsp of paprika
  • 1 tsp of onion salt
  • 1 tsp of garlic powder

Buttermilk Brine

  • 1¼ cups of buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp of hot sauce
  • 1 tsp of paprika

Directions:

Step 1

In a large bowl, add the cornflour, baking powder, salt, chopped thyme, paprika, onion salt, and garlic powder, then whisk them together until well combined, and add the chicken tossing it until all sides are well coated. Transfer the chicken to a wire rack on top of a baking sheet, then put it inside the fridge, and let it chill for at least 30 minutes or up to overnight. For the spiced flour, simply mix together the flour, cornflour, garlic granules, salt, and chili powder, then set them aside for later. For the buttermilk brine, add the buttermilk, hot sauce, and paprika in a mixing bowl, then mix them together until combined, and set it aside.

Step 2

Once you’re ready to cook, place a large pan on a stove over medium-high heat, then add the oil, and let it heat up. Get the chicken out of the fridge, then shake off any extra dry marinade, dip it into the buttermilk brine, and then dredge it in the spiced flour until completely covered. Repeat this process twice, deep fry the chicken for about 17 to 20 minutes making sure to rotate every now and then until brown and crispy. Transfer the cooked chicken to a plate lined with a paper towel, then season with salt, and drizzle it with honey. Serve it along with some fries and coleslaw and enjoy!
