Materials:

  • Striped fabric, for quilting
  • Batting fabric
  • Backing fabric
  • Binding fabric
  • Ruler
  • Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
  • Needle and thread
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Sewing machine

Directions:

Step 1

Cut the fabric into 10-inch squares, you can put some weight on top of the ruler to keep it in place and avoid the fabric from moving around, or ask for help. Next, cut each block diagonally in half making sure to follow what is shown in the video to achieve the right pattern later. After cutting each block, exchange one half of the block with another to create an “L” shape pattern, make sure to match the colors as well for better results.

Step 2

After mixing and matching the blocks, grab the first pair, then lay them on top of each other with their right sides facing and their edges matching, and sew them together on one side with a ¼-inch seam allowance. Give it a nice press, then open the fabric, and press it again flattening the seams towards one side. Proceed to sew the rest of the blocks, then once done, you can sew together the blocks, and add the batting, backing, and binding fabrics. To complete your quilt, sew some patterns all over the patchwork.
