Old Distressed Door Plant Shelf Holder…So Clever!

Are you looking for a place to put all of your small potted plants?  Well, here’s an awesome solution!  I got tired of all my small potted plants getting kicked over…besides, they looked junky randomly sitting around everywhere.  This cool looking distressed door with shelves adds color and an eclectic look to my patio.  Now I’m adding a turquoise weathered/distressed bench to my patio, I painted my pots with bright colored designs.  Then I hung some colorful wind chimes & bird houses.  Now that I’ve brightened everything up, my patio looks FABULOUS!

Keep in mind that this old door would also look great inside your home, with books and nik-naks on it!  Whatever you may need a cool shelf for, this one’s unique!

HERE’S WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

Five 1″ x 12″ pine boards, 24″ long

Drill

Paint Brush

10 “L” Brackets, with screws

Household or Candle Wax

Sanding block

Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint in Delicate, Lace & Heritage

Americana Decor Creme Wax in Dark Brown

Americana Decor Flower Market Stencil

Start with Americana Decor Chalky Finish and paint random sections of the old door and the wood for the shelves…don’t paint the whole thing…just sections and let dry for 20-30 minutes.  Then paint more patches in Lace.  Rub sections of the door and wood pieces with wax.  He uses Gulf Wax from the grocery store, but you can use candle wax too.  Then paint the entire door and wood pieces with Delicate.  Sand to reveal base colors.  Scuff up the door and wood with a hammer to make them appear more aged.  Next use Americana Decor Creme wax…paint sections and rub in with a cloth…let dry for 30 minutes.  Next, position and mark the “L” Brackets and screw into the wood pieces.  Position and mark the shelves and screw into door.  Then paint the brackets to blend with the door.   Stencil top center of the door with Chalky Finish in Rustic.  Now you can add your plants and enjoy your creation!
