I am relatively new to sewing, and one main goal of starting my sewing adventure was to save money by making my own clothes. So when I found this video tutorial describing 3 ways to save money by making the most of your fabric by Thoughtful Creativity on YouTube, I was really excited to use all these tips. There are so many ways to save money with your sewing, one way is making sure you always get the most from your fabric and don’t buy too much. Most patterns will tell you to cut on the fold and give necessary fabric measurements according to that method. If you cut your pieces on a flat piece, that will save wasting and also save you from buying more fabric than you need. If the fabric store is not busy, you can bring your pattern and lay it out on your fabric before it’s cut to make sure you only buy what you need. There are other tips such as making your own bias tape from other fabric.

Materials:

  • A fabric marker
  • Scissors
  • A rotary cutter
  • A measuring tape

Directions:

You can flip your pattern over to draw ou a full piece so you do not cut on the fold.

You can also use a cheaper fabric to make bias tape.

These fabric cutting tips are so useful, I will certainly be incorporating them into my sewing from now on.
