#2

Grab another rule and line it up to “butt” up against the ruler you are measuring with, then cut. With this, you won’t need to move your fabric, mat, or yourself to the other side of the table just to cut.

#3

Finger-pressing your seams open right at the sewing machine is a huge timesaver.

#4

When sewing strips, be sure to start at one end, sew in a strip, then turn it around, and sew the other side. Otherwise, your strips will be “misshapen” and your blocks won’t square up.

#5

When cutting squares from strips, make sure that you line up your strip seams with the lines on your ruler before you start cutting.

#6

You don’t have to sew anything together to make one block when it’s a filler block. It’s just one big block several times over, peppered within the quilt.

When you are appliqueing, it’s easier to do so before connecting the entire quit.

#8

When you are appliqueing with letters, print out the letter you need.

#9

Always do a stitch test for your applique project and always use a stabilizer behind your applique.

#10

When connecting the major rows on your quilt top, backstitch on both ends to ensure seam closure.

#11

Place pins a few inches from where you’re sewing the seam, this will ensure faster sewing at the sewing machine.

#12

Roll the seams with your fingers and clip all around the edge.
