Seeds:

  • Potatoes
  • Kale
  • Swiss chard
  • Winter squash

Directions:

Potatoes

If the potatoes are the size of an egg or smaller, then you can plant them as is, and make sure to leave only 1 to 2 eyes, this way, you’ll get fewer but larger potatoes. If the potatoes are bigger than the size of an egg, then cut them in half, and allow the cut or scars to heal nicely for at least a week. Make sure to plant them 4 to 6 inches deep and 12 inches apart.

Kale

This is super easy to grow and you can plant them indoors, too. They germinate in just 7 to 10 days and they quickly start growing because of the warm weather. However, they get bitter in the summer heat, so if you plant them in July, by the time kale plants start to produce enough leaves for you to harvest, it’ll be cooler. You can start harvesting them in about a month and a half to two months after planting.

Swiss Chard

This is also super easy to grow just like kale and you can start harvesting as soon as the plants get about four sets of leaves. Plus, you can also keep on harvesting older leaves and encourage new leaves to grow. Make sure to plant the in shade or partial shade to keep them away from too much heat.

Winter Squash

There are a lot of types of winter squash that you can plant such as; butternut squash, spaghetti squash, red kuri squash, and many other types. Make sure to plant them at least 4 months before your first frost, so if the frost starts in November, then July is the perfect month for you to plant them. Watch the video tutorial to find out what other seeds you can plant in July.
