As a coffee lover, I always brew my coffee at home and have a ton of coffee grounds, as my family loves drinking coffee, too. We always throw it directly into the trash. Sometimes, I wonder what are the things I can do with it. I remember a few years back, I collected some coffee grounds from a popular coffee shop as instructed by our teacher and used them as a fertilizer for our tree-planting project. Aside from using it as a fertilizer, I do not know any uses of it. So, I did some research and found this video by Brodie Vissers, where he showed 5 ways to reuse coffee grounds.

Do you love brewing fresh coffee at home, too? If you do, don’t throw the coffee grounds away, as there are tons of things that you can do with them. You can use it to scrub dishes, as a natural freshener, vintage dye, or body scrub. I never knew you could use it as a body scrub, and will definitely try it next time. If you already know all of these tips, you might want to try eating it with your ice cream. At the end of the video, he added a little bit of the coffee grounds to his plain vanilla ice cream along with a splash of rum.

1. Plant fertilizer

Did you know that coffee grounds break down quickly in soil releasing nitrogen and other nutrients that are more readily available for the plants? Just make sure not to put too much on the smaller sprouts. It also brings the pH of the soil up.

2. Scrubbing dishes

Do you have pots and pans that are hard to clean? Try sprinkling a bit of coffee grounds on your sponge along with the soap. It is much less abrasive than using something like steel wool.

3. Natural freshener

Fill up a small bowl with coffee grounds and place it in areas with stinky odors.

4. Vintage dye

Coffee can give a nice vintage feel to paper and fabric. Just boil some water in a pot and add the grounds. If you are using paper, make sure it has a bit of thickness to it so it does not fall apart.

5. Body scrub

Make a coffee scrub by mixing 5 parts of coffee grounds, 3 parts of coconut oil, and 1 part cinnamon. The texture of the grounds help remove dead skin and clear out dirt. Cinnamon have antibacterial properties to protect the skin while the coconut oil is a great moisturizer.
