Ready for a fun project this week? If you are, here’s a wandering star quilt by Missouri Star. For this quilt design, you will need to sew curves together. But do not worry as it is very easy. No need to be afraid of sewing curves. The easiest way to do it is to align them into a straight line while you sew them together.
When you combine the blocks together, you will create the stars in the middle and the circles on the corners. It is different from the star patterns I have seen before as it looks very modern and fun. Try it at home – I am sure you’ll enjoy making it as well. Get two contrasting fabrics from the pack. Decide which one will have the little corner and place it on top. Get the small curve, place it on the corner, and cut it out.
Take the Drunkard’s template and place it on the remaining fabric. Lay it on the 9 1/2″ line which is the first solid line. Cut it out.
Sew the small curve from step 1 to the contrasting fabric from step 2 to make the block.
Get your accent fabric and cut a 2 1/2″ strip. Take one of the blocks and place the strip on the opposite corner from your curve about 2 inches on the top just like in the photo below, then sew it. Flip it and trim it into a block using the square as a guide. If your pattern shows underneath you want to trim the corner off.
Get another accent strip and place it just like what you did in step 4 but on the top just like in the photo below.
Repeat steps 1 to 5 for all of your squares.
Get four blocks and sew them together with the accent fabric in the middle just like a four patch.
