Rag doormats are so cute and make any space look homey. I had no idea you could make your own until I saw this wonderful woven doormat tutorial by Handmade Crafts & Tutorials on Youtube. This rug pattern is not only attractive but looks super easy. This idea is great for recycling as well because the entire surface of the doormat is made from old clothes. You can literally use anything for this doormat project, fabric scraps, or even old bedsheets would work very well.

Materials:

  • Old clothing (fabric, bedsheets, or whatever you have is fine)
  • Scissors (or a rotary cutter)
  • A needle
  • Thread
  • Fabric glue is another option that will work for holding your rug together

Directions:

First, you will shred all your fabric into long strips, then start one long continuous braid. As you are braiding, you can spiral your braid to gauge how large you want the doormat or rug to be.

Then, you will just sew or glue your long braid together. It is really that easy to make this amazing doormat.

I ended up making a couple of doormats and a larger rug for my kitchen. The bright mish-mosh of colors gave my space the boho flavor that is so dear to my heart. Just when I thought I was finished with my rug making, my mom came over and complimented my creations to such an extreme extent, that I ended up making her one for her back porch. She loved it and I love making things for my family.
