Fresh flowers make such a great difference to a room. When someone places a flower vase in our living room, it suddenly feels fresh and light! But sometimes it’s hard to justify buying them as they easily wilt. But did you know there are some things you can do to make them last for a few more days? You probably know some of these, like cutting the leaves and cutting the stems. You can also alter the pH by adding some ingredients. Aside from those, there are still three things you can do. Try putting vodka and pennies in your flower vases and see what happens. I was amazed when I first learned these tricks from Tasty Home. Try them next time you buy flowers.
One of the most common suggestions you’ll hear from a florist is to remove any leaves that will be underwater. Just cut them using sharp scissors.
This is also pretty common, cut the stems 1 inch from the bottom at a sharp angle underwater. Yes, you read that right, underwater.
Have you ever thought of adding vodka to your flowers? Believe it or not, it helps to slow wilting! Just add a few drops to your vase water.
Another trick is adding lemon-lime soda. Who knew you could add your favorite drink to your vase water to keep your flowers alive? Just add 1/4 cup to the water. The sugar helps your flowers to last longer.
Pennies? You might think I’m kidding, but I’m actually not. Put a copper penny (penny from 1982) in your vase water, and it will keep your flowers alive for a longer period. The reason behind this is that copper acts as an acidifier to fight bacteria growth.
Store your flowers in the fridge overnight. The low temperature slows the aging process.
Add ice cubes to your vase water and change it every other day.
