This festive scarecrow decoration from South Fayette Township Library on Youtube is the perfect addition to your fall decoration this year! This craft is so easy to make and a perfect project to bond with your family or friends this weekend. Start gathering the materials needed today by watching the video tutorial below.

Materials:

  • twine
  • raffia
  • beads
  • burlap
  • paint
  • hot glue
  • terracotta pots in 2 sizes

Directions:

Step 1

Start by cutting four pieces of twine and knot at the top. Next, thread a large bead onto all four strands of the twine, then thread all twine through the top of a large terracotta pot. After this, separate two strands and place them on the side to become arms, then thread the two twine strands in the middle through the bottom of your other large terracotta pot, this will be the body of the scarecrow. Now, hot glue the body to the head of the scarecrow. Next, take a small pot and thread twine through the bottom, thread a small bead next, then secure with a knot. This will be the arms of the scarecrow. Moving on with the legs, just repeat the step you did for the arms.

Step 2

Next, cut some raffia into smaller pieces and glue them around the terracotta pot rim to decorate. After this, measure the burlap according to how much you need. Measure the upper terracotta from top to bottom (don’t include the lip of the pot) and you also need to measure around the pot. Hot glue the burlap to the pot, making sure the flat part is in the front and the seam is on the back. Finally, using some paint, paint a face to your scarecrow.
