Easy Chips and Jelly Quilt Block Materials

  • 24 pieces of 2 1/2″ strips or jelly roll strips
  • 144 pieces of 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ colored rectangles

Finish quilt size: 48″ x 64″

How to Make Chips and Jelly Quilt

Step 1:

Fold the jelly roll strip in half. It needs to be at least 21″ wide with the selvages trimmed off. Make another cut at 12 1/2″. This will give you  2 pieces of 2 1/2″ by 12 1/2″ rectangles and 2 pieces of 2 1/2″ by 8 1/2″ rectangles.

Step 2:

Take 6 pieces of 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ colored rectangles in different colors and sew them together in a stack with a 1/4″ seam allowance. You can sew them in pairs, sets, or however you like. Press the unit flat. The seams don’t need to nest for this step.

Step 3:

Sew one 12 1/2″ strip to the left and one to the right. Press the fabrics to the sides.

Step 4:

Add one 8 1/2″ piece to the top and one to the bottom. Press the seam up on both sides. That way you can spin the block if necessary when you assemble the top. It should measure 8 1/2″ x 16 1/2″ unfinished.

You will need 24 blocks to make a 48″ x 64″ quilt.
