I was looking to incorporate an old Hollywood theme in my bedroom and having a dressing table that could double up as a desk was something that could really bring this theme together. I came across this wonderful IKEA desk makeover idea by Liz Fenwick DIY on YouTube, and could not believe my luck. Liz found an ordinary $40 desk at IKEA and Spray painted it gold. I love the look of gold in home decor, so when I saw this idea I was smitten. Liz used marble contact paper on the shelf inside the desk and that finishing touch really gave the desk a regal look.

Materials:

  • IKEA desk (or any metal desk)
  • Marble contact paper
  • Gold spray paint (Krylon 24 karat is really good)

Any gold spray paint will work here and you could also use this fabulous idea on anything else you might need to paint. Really anything you decide to spray paint gold is going to look extra special.

This is an amazing video tutorial and since I had so much gold paint leftover, I have gone on a total gold painting spree. I painted a chair that I found at a yard sale and it matches my desk perfectly.
