Lay 4 pieces with different colors of print squares. Make sure they are aligned straight. Make a 6 1/2 inch cut, then turn and cut into 2 1/2 inch strips. On the other half, cut it 5 inches across, cut it into 2 1/2 inches and cut it across 2 1/2 inches. These will be the little center spools. You need 6 pieces of 2 1/2-inch background squares for each block.
Take 2 pieces of the 2 1/2″ background squares and place one printed 2 1/2″ square in the middle. Sew them together. This will be panel A.
For the outside edges, take 2 of the 2 1/2 inch strips. Place it on the top and bottom of panel A. Take 2 pieces of 2 1/2″ background squares and place them on the ends of the top strip. Sew them diagonally descending towards the middle. Do the same for the bottom. Cut the edges off, then press the seams open towards the middle.
Lay the 3 panels together. Sew them together with a 0.4″ seam allowance. Make more of this block.
Get 4 blocks and lay in a four-patch. Place the first one horizontally, and the second one vertically. For the second row, place the first one vertically and then the second one horizontally. Sew the four blocks together. Press the seams flat.
Sew 5 rows with 4 blocks in each row. Add a 2 1/2″ border and a 6″ outer border.
