This spicy margarita with jalapeno by Rob’s Home Bar is the perfect drink for those who love the extra kick. Margaritas have a combination of sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and umami flavors. They are typically made out of three ingredients–tequila, Cointreau, and lime juice, but this version has an addition of jalapeno slices and ginger beer. It is a nice spin on a classic cocktail drink.

Add 3 to 4 slices of jalapeno in a shaker glass, followed by 1 oz of lime juice. Use a muddler to crush the peppers to extract the flavors.
Add 1 of Cointreau and 2 oz of Reposado tequila.
Fill your shaker glass with ice cubes. Place the tin on top, seal, and shake for about 15 to 20 seconds.
Grab 1/2 lime and rub it into one side of the rim of the glass, then press into the coarse kosher salt.
Fill the glass with ice cubes. Double-strain the mixture using the Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh tea strainer to make sure you don’t get any bits of pepper, especially the seeds. If the seeds get in your drink, it will get hotter and hotter as you drink it. Leave a little bit of room at the top of the drink.
Top your drink with ginger beer. Garnish with lime round and a sliced jalapeno. Serve and enjoy!
