When grocery shopping, it’s very important to prepare a list so that you don’t forget anything or you don’t buy something that you won’t need. But, there are still instances where the produce that you bought won’t be touched for a while and it would be a waste if it rots or becomes overripe because then it won’t be of use.
RELATED: How to Preserve Meat for a Long Time
The best logical approach is to preserve your food so that it won’t spoil quickly and to store it properly to prevent it from rotting. There are 4 different ways that you can preserve food and you can learn them in this video tutorial by Cookist Wow on YouTube. I hope you find these tips as useful as I did!
#1: In a Basket
Put the potatoes in a basket, then place apples on top, and cover them with a cloth. This will help prevent roots from sprouting, but take caution because apples among other fruits produce ethylene, which will speed up the process of any fruit or veggie to ripen or rot.
#2: In a Paper Bag
Using a puncher, punch holes all over a small paper bag, then place the garlic inside, and fold the paper down until near the garlic. You can store this for up to 6 months.
#3: In a Jar
In a saucepan, add the sugar, salt, and vinegar, then stir them to combine, and then cover it with the lid. Bring the mixture to a boil, put the chopped onions or cauliflower florets in a jar, and add some cloves. Pour the mixture into the jar, close the lid tightly, and store them.
#4: In Aluminum Foil
Wrap the celery stalks in aluminum nicely, then put it in the refrigerator, and store until needed. You can also use the same method with carrots.
