How to Make the Best Meatloaf
Step 1:
Preheat the oven to 360F.
Step 2:
Place a pan over medium heat and add butter. Once melted, add the diced onion and sauté for a minute, then add the garlic. Sauté for another minute. Remove from the pan and set aside for later. Sautéing garlic and onions before adding to the meat is the first secret.
Step 3:
In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, mustard, and ketchup. Mix until well combined.
Step 4:
The second secret is using extra lean ground beef. Add beef to a large bowl, followed by paprika, parsley, garlic powder, pepper, salt, Worcestershire sauce, and the sauteéd onion and garlic. Mix until well combined.
Step 5:
The third secret is using half and half instead of milk. Add it to your beef, followed by the egg and breadcrumbs. Mix until well combined.
Step 6:
The final secret is allowing your meatloaf mixture to sit in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before forming your loaf.
Step 7:
After 30 minutes, remove from the refrigerator and form your loaf. Transfer your loaf to a wire rack placed on a baking sheet, then spread the sauce on top. Place in the preheated oven and allow it to cook for 1 hour.
