This sawtooth star quilt block from Melanie Ham on YouTube is one of my favorite quilt patterns of all time. I love how the no-waste flying geese were made and how this quilt block turned out. Whenever I have friends asking me for beginner-friendly patterns they can make, I always recommend this quilt as it’s easy and looks so pretty at the same time. You can also just use solid-colored fabrics and it will still look stunning. Try this pattern today if you’re still looking for your next quilt project! Watch the video tutorial below to learn the step by step instructions. Thanks to Melanie Ham for this gorgeous quilt project. Make sure to check the channel for more quilting videos just like this.
To start, cut all the fabric requirements and label them accordingly. Now, line the smaller squares on the opposite corners of the background fabric, right sides together, then draw a line right on the center and stitch a 1/4″ seam on either side of the line. Once done, cut right into the center and press open. Now, take the other 4″ squares, place them in the background’s corner, line right in the center, then sew on each side. Once done, cut it right down the center. Press it afterward. Repeat these steps one more time to make another two sets. After this, trim the units down to 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″.

Now, lay the units down to create the sawtooth star block. First, lay the center square, then place the flying geese units on all sides, then the four 3 1/2″ white squares on each corner. Sew these by rows, then sew those rows together to create the block.
