Arrange the 8 fat quarters by saturation. To better understand the saturation, take a black and white picture and rearrange them until you have 4 high value and 4 low-value fabrics.
Give each fat quarter an excellent press to flatten them out with a cloth iron. Stack all the fat quarters on top of each other while aligning the selvages on the bottom side.
Square up the pile along the bottom of the fabric. Then, measure 18 inches from there and cut the excess side with the rotary cutter. Trim off the selvages.
Measure two 9 inches and cut. Then, measure from the bottom, 9 inches and cut, making 4 9-inch squares. Stack the square upon each other by alternating the low values with the high values. Ensure any directional fabrics are facing the right way up.
Make 4 stacks of 8. Make a random cut parallel to the side from the bottom to the top of the square fabrics.
Then, place the top piece from the right side on the bottom, and take the piece from the right side and pair it with the piece from the left side. Repeat with the other pairs with all the stacks. To chain piece, pin and sew all 32 blocks.
Using the cloth iron, press on the dark sides of the blocks and stack all 32 blocks. Make 4 stacks of 8 blocks. Match up the corners.
With your ruler, draw a random perpendicular to the left side and cut with the rotary cutter. Take the top 3 layers and put them on the bottom. Then, pair the right side with the left side with the right sides together. Repeat with the other 3 stacks.
Pin and sew all the 32 blocks together, pressing neatly, On the wall, tape in an extended fabric to arrange your quilt. Arrange 6 rows of 5 blocks each. The pattern is free to download and follow. Pin and sew the blocks all together.
To make the quilt borders, cut 5 strips of 3 ½ inches x WOF. From the strips, make a square 2 3 ½ inches x 48 ½ inches. Then, sew them to the sides of the quilt. Repeat to make the other 2 strips and sew them to the top and bottom of the quilt top. For the quilting, make and sew big easy curves.
