Instructions:

Step 1:

Fold 3 inches of paper and cut a line an inch and a quarter from the folded edge. Next, cut the strip into 6 inches long. Now you have a rectangle measuring 2 1/2″ wide by 6″ long. Measure 3/8″ from the edge of the folded part, then connect that mark to the top corner of the paper and cut. You will have a wedge shape.

Step 2:

Take three rectangles of the pan and stack them on top of each other with the wrong side facing up. Take your template and hold it in place with a couple of dabs of glue. Cut the fabric the same size as the template. Do the same for the 3 remaining rectangles.

Step 3:

Start sewing the wedges in pairs, press the seams then sew the pairs together to make the complete fan.

Step 4:

Take the two-inch square and sew it onto the end of one of the seven-inch background pieces and press the seam away from the square.

Step 5:

Place the batting on the backing. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner. Next, draw a border around the edges of the block that is 1 and 1/4″ away from the edge of the fabric. From the top corner to the bottom, measure 5 3/8 inches and make a little mark. Measuring across from the top corner, measure 5 3/8 inches and make a little mark. Connect the marks. Next, from the opposite bottom corner, mark a line that is 6 1/2″ away from the corner across the bottom edge, do the same on the side edge then connect them. On the same corner, do it again but it should now measure 4 1/8″.

Step 6:

Take your fan and position it onto your block with the center seam of your fan aligned with the center diagonal line of the block. Align the center bottom edge of the fan with the 5 1/2″ diagonal line. Double-check if the fan is centered. Secure it with a pin.

Step 7:

Sew a triangle onto the top edge of the fan. Place the triangle onto the top of the fan, right sides together, then line it up with the diagonal. Sew a quarter of an inch away from the outer border lines. Next, sew the bottom triangle.

Step 8:

Sew the 7-inch pieces on the sides of the fan, then the 7-inch pieces with 2-inch squares on the top and bottom (make sure they are leveled with the side edge of the fan). Cut the excess fabrics then press.

Step 9:

Take a background triangle and place its right sides together so that it runs across the square piece edge to edge, then sew.

Step 10:

Make the border a quarter of an inch away from the marked lines.
