If you do any shopping at a regular retail or grocery store you are bound to have some plastic bags sooner or later! I’m going to guess you are more of the type that will reuse the bags, instead of tossing them, since you follow this page and are into DIY projects.

My Grandmother used to cut a hole in an empty milk jug and put her plastic bags in that. I used to keep a bag full of bags under my sink and it took up way too much space, after a while.

The good news is that last year I stopped at a little shop while on a vacation and among the fun handmade things I found, I picked up a bag holder that I just love! I’ve been using it ever since and I keep it on a hanger on the back of my pantry door. It’s very nice to keep the bags put away and off the floor, but easily accessible when I need them.

I decided to sew one of these simple bag holders to keep rags in, since I loved the one I bought so much and I also made one to give as a gift to my sister who recently moved into a new house and I filled it up with some goodies for her new home. It was a perfect little housewarming gift and she loves it!

A great project for beginners at sewing!! This is so simple, yet is so nice to have at your fingertips! It’s so much easier than have your rags and bags taking up space in your cabinet drawers…they stack up fast and I needed the space.

Here is a step by step tutorial for how to make a grocery bag holder. It’s a quick and easy sewing project, which will only take about 10-15 minutes. The best part? It’s made with tea towel so no need to hide any raw edges to stop fraying. It’s already done for you! The perfect project for beginning sewers.

I also use mine for my cleaning rags. Since the grocery stores have stopped using plastic bags I put the plastic produce bags and bread bags in mine. They’re nice to have when you want a plastic bag to put food in…or, in my case, when they run out of bags at the pet station on my property I live at!
