Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup white sugar, divided
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water, divided
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, or more if needed
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp garlic salt
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese

Directions:

Step 1

In a bowl with 1/2 cup warm water, add 1/8 cup white sugar and 1 package of active dry yeast. Let it sit for five minutes until the yeast starts to bloom. After this, add 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, 3 tbsp vegetable oil, 1 egg, 1/2 tsp salt, then the remaining sugar and warm water. Mix everything together until sticky dough forms. After this, flour your working surface and transfer the dough. Knead until smooth and elastic, adding flour as necessary. After this, place the dough in a greased bowl, turning it over to cover it with the oil. Cover it with a damp towel and leave for 40 minutes.

Step 2

After 40 minutes, punch out the gas, then return it to the floured surface. Divide it into pieces, then roll each piece out into a 6″ long log. Once done, put the breadsticks on a greased baking sheet. Cover them with a towel and let them rise for 25 minutes or until they double in size. After this, remove the towel, place the breadsticks in a 400 degrees F oven, and bake for 10 to 12 minutes. In the meantime, combine 1/2 cup of melted butter and 1/2 tsp garlic salt. Brush this mixture onto the freshly baked breadsticks, then sprinkle some grated parmesan cheese.
