Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of warm water, 105-110 degrees
  • 1 pack of yeast
  • ½ tbsp. of salt
  • ¼ cup of sugar, use 1 tbsp. of the sugar to activate the yeast
  • 3¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup of melted shortening(Crisco)
  • 1 piece of egg
  • Butter, warm and melted
  • Honey (optional)

Directions:

Step 1

Fill a large measuring cup with warm water, then add a tablespoon of sugar and a pack of yeast, let sit for 10 minutes until it rises. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar. Mix it well then add the egg, shortening, and yeast mixture, then mix it until it forms a dough. Cover it with a towel or a plastic and let the dough rise. Spray the sheet pan with some cooking spray and set it aside.

Step 2

Throw some flour on the surface where you’ll do the shaping, then scoop the dough out and cover with the flour. Roll it out before cutting it into 1.5 to 2 ounces balls using a dough cutter. Roll each dough ball between your palms then place them in the sheet pan. Cover it again and let it rise before baking it in a preheated 350°F oven for 30 minutes. Brush it with warm melted butter or a butter and honey mixture, then serve.
