I just love how hearty and comforting this dish is. It’s a staple in my home cooking, and I make this almost every week; it’s just that good! Watch the video below to learn the step by step instructions on how to make this fantastic dish.

Ingredients:

  • 2.20 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 carrots, diced
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree
  • 3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 3/4 cups of beef stock
  • 7 medium potatoes, diced
  • butter
  • 5 oz milk
  • seasonings, to taste
  • grated cheese, optional

Directions:

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. Next, prep and cut your veggies accordingly. After this, heat some oil in a large pan, then saute the diced onions and carrots until softened. Set them aside. Heat a little oil in the same pan and brown the ground beef. Once your meat is browned, add the sauteed veggies back into the pan and stir them all together. Add 2 tbsp tomato puree, 3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, and 1 3/4 cups of beef stock. Mix well, then allow the mixture to simmer for twenty minutes.

Step 2

In the meantime, diced your potatoes and boil them until softened. Once done, drain them and mash them. Add some butter and a splash of warm milk. Mix it all together and season to taste.

Step 3

Now, grab your casserole dish and transfer the ground beef mixture. Add the mashed potatoes over the top and fluff the top with a fork. Add shredded cheese on top (optional). Place the casserole in the preheated 400 degrees F oven and bake for about 20 to 25 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
