I have to say that this DIY project literally blew me away! I had no idea that this kind of thing could be done with a couple of every day things we have around the house!

I couldn’t wait to share Aleene’s Burnt Brown Bag technique. What’s the most fun with this project is everyone is so amazed at how you can create the look of metal from burnt brown bag.  Yep! That’s right, this is two layers of brown bag glued together – as in grocery bags – add a coating of Aleene’s Tacky Glue (you can use the Super Thick if you’d prefer) – burn with a candle – add antiquing paste, or Gold Leaf Rub & Buff, and you have the look of metal!

This intriguing technique was discovered in the early 1960’s by Katy Ogle, one of Aleene’s designers, when she was testing Aleene’s Glues for flammability. Enjoy this vintage Aleene’s technique and watch how I Love To Create does this in her step by step tutorial.

DISCLAIMER:

If you do decide to use this technique for a project, we strongly recommend that you do it in an area with excellent ventilation, such as outdoors with a fan or a good breeze, or inside near a window while using a fan. Avoid breathing in the fumes and do not allow children to perform this technique.
