Take the four squares and join them together like a four-patch. Once you are happy with the arrangement of the squares, sew them in rows with a quarter of an inch seam allowance. Once done, press them open. Next, sew the rows together with a quarter of an inch seam allowance, then press open.
Cut off 1 1/2″ inches. Line up your ruler with the center line, so the inch-and-a-quarter line is actually on your seam. Turn it around, place your ruler on the seam line again, and cut another. Repeat it two more times, turning and cutting.
Take the centerpiece from the top and move it to the center-right. Take the one on the center-right and put it to the bottom. Get the bottom and move it to the left, then move the center-left piece to the top. Sew them in rows first, then press them open. Once done, sew the rows together to make the four-patch block.
