There are tons of leaf quilt patterns, but this one by The Melody of Sewing is my favorite. Look at how beautiful this leaves quilt block is. I love it because it is different from the usual patterns I have ever seen. It shows the veins of the leaf, which I absolutely like, and when you combine each of the blocks, they create this wonderful design.

Believe it or not, this block is not as difficult as it looks. I thought it was hard to make when I first saw it, but it turned out it was not. The steps are not complicated; they are very straightforward. Everyone can follow the instructions easily.

Aside from the pattern above, you can also make flower patterns. Watch the video below to get more ideas. Happy quilting!

Easy Leaves Quilt Pattern Materials

  • 6 pieces of 1″ x 13″ strips of main fabric
  • 5 pieces of 3/4″ x 13″ strips of background fabric
  • 4 pieces of 2″ background squares
  • 1″ wide background strip

How to Make a Leaves Quilt Block

Step 1:

Sew 5 background strips to 5 main fabric strips, then sew the pairs together to make a unit. Press it flat.

Step 2:

Cut the unit into 5 3/4″ inches squares. Make sure the seams of the squares go in opposite directions. Next, place them right sides together, then draw a diagonal line, from corner to corner. Pin it in place, then sew 1/4″ away from both sides of the line.

Press each square open. Trim each one into a 5 1/4″ square.

Step 3:

Draw a diagonal line on all of the 2″ background squares. Place them on the corner top of the blocks just like in the photo below. Sew directly on the line, then cut the excess. Press them open.

Step 4:

Arrange the blocks in the same directions. Sew them together in rows first. Once done, sew the rows together to make the quilt top. Sew the batting and backing.

Step 5:

Fold the 1″ background strip in half twice, then press with an iron. Sew the strip on the middle of each leaf just like in the photo below.
