I just made this layer cakes Christmas tree chevron quilt by Missouri Star Quilt Company, and I couldn’t believe how beautiful it turned out. I decided to hang it on my wall since I don’t have a real Christmas tree at home. It sure does brighten my space and gives me that holiday spirit! Try to sew one for your place – it is super easy to make, perfect for beginners. Watch the video below for the full tutorial.

Sew the background fabric into 10″ squares.
Place a background square on top of the green square, right sides together. Make an X on the back by drawing diagonal lines from one corner to another.
Sew a quarter of an inch on either side of the lines.
Cut it 4 times. The first cut is in half in both directions, right across the crisis cross. Next, cut it diagonally in both directions. Lay your ruler corner to corner and cut using a rotary cutter.
Square each piece to 4 1/2″. Open and iron all the small squares.
Put two squares together where the green triangles form a bigger triangle. Take another 2 squares and place them, so that the white comes together on the bottom of the first two. Sew them together to make one big block. Make 27 pieces more of this block for a total of 28 pieces. Cut 8 1/2″ strips for the background. The number of blocks from the bottom starts at 7 and then descends until you get to the top of the tree. The length for each layer will have 4-inch increments. You’re going to put big strips on either side of the big chevron.
To make the star, print the pattern. Next, take the heat and bond fabric and place the shiny and sticky side to the wrong side of the yellow fabric. Iron them together, then fold in half. Place the pattern aligned on the folded edge, then trace. Cut the star, peel the back, and iron to your quilt.
For the trunk, you need an 8 1/2″ square. Put two long background strips on either side.
