If you don’t know John Legend, he’s a pop singer. His wife Chrissy Teigen is an amazing cook and has many great recipes in her cookbook called Cravings. I love them both and John’s LEGENDary fried chicken with spicy honey butter sounds delicious. John’s tutorial on YouTube shows step-by-step with detailed instructions on how to make his fried chicken. The spicy honey butter sauce reminds me of a nice southern twist. This recipe would be good to make to go along with other southern sides such as mac and cheese that John is known to brag about too.

Ingredients:

For the Chicken and Brine:

  • 10 cups cold water
  • 6 tablespoons Lawry’s Seasoning Salt
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons cayenne pepper
  • 5 pounds chicken wings and drummettes

For the Breading:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Lawry’s Seasoning Salt
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 6 cups canola oil for frying

For the Spicy Honey Butter:

  • 1 stick unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 4 tablespoons Cholula hot sauce (sorry, it has to be Cholula)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more to taste

Directions:

First, combine the water, seasoning salt, garlic powder, and cayenne in a really big pot. Add the chicken wings, cover, and refrigerate for at least 4 hours and up to 24.

Next, bread and fry the chicken. Use a deep fryer to fry the chicken in batches to get the nice golden and crispy color/taste. Then, drain the wings paper towels to soak up any excess oil from the chicken. This is an optional step, but slather the fried chicken with John Legend’s spicy honey butter sauce.

Overall, I love this fried chicken recipe with spicy butter by John Legend. The sound when he bites into the chicken sounds so crispy and crunchy. The fried chicken looked good naked but better with the spicy honey butter glazed all over.
