Instead of consuming or using all of your store-bought veggies and herbs on your food, try saving some of their roots and re-grow them for more future uses! Here, Daisy Creek Farms with Jag Singh via YouTube will discuss the proper procedures and other key details in planting them so that you can harvest more.
Ginger
Get a fat piece of ginger that’s at least 2 inches long and 2 inches wide, break the ginger apart into desired pieces, then plant it about 1 inch deep into a pot containing lots of compost. Water the ginger after planting, then you’ll see after about 1 month, the shoots of ginger will be visible, will start to grow, and produce more.

Green onions
Cut the bottom part of green onions, at least half an inch including the roots. Then, plant the onion by covering the roots completely in soil, when the onion starts to develop shoots, harvest the shoots and add to your food as desired.
Garlic
Get a big piece of the garlic bulb and break it into cloves, only use big cloves for planting. The garlic should be planted about a thumb length deep and a hand length apart. Instead of using your hands, you can also use sticks to punch holes in the soil about 2 inches deep and 6 inches apart, plant the flat end down and the pointy end up, plant in garden beds with loose soil, which will produce big garlic bulbs in about 8-9 months.
Potatoes
Wait for the potatoes to start budding, then simply plant the whole potato in the ground. Dig a hole in your garden bed and place the potatoes with buds facing up, then cover with soil.
Carrots
Cut the top of the carrot about 1 inch, then plant the carrot with the flat end facing down and the stem side up. After 1 month they will start to grow leaves which you can add to your food specifically salad.
Lettuce
Cut the bottom part of the lettuce and plant that part with the flat end down. Dig a hole in the pot and completely cover the bottom part with soil, after 2 weeks they will begin to regrow.
Leeks
They are grown the same way as the lettuce, just make sure that the leeks you choose have healthy roots. Then, cut the bottom part of the leeks, plant them in pots or garden beds, and after 2 weeks they will start to grow.
Celery
Celery grows very easily, just cut the bottom and plant it in soil. It will regrow only after 2 weeks.
Basil, Mint, Rosemary, Oregano, Sage, Thyme
Simply remove all the lower leaves leaving only the top, then place the basil cutting in water, after 2 weeks it will start to have roots. That’s the time to transfer them to a pot or your garden.
