This is an ingenious way of using shirts that I haven’t thought about or thought was difficult. Ezi2Make Channel shows how to recycle old shirts into a crossbody bag in her YouTube tutorial. You can use whatever pattern you would like, so be creative. If you have any cool pattern shirts that you cannot fit, or want to throw away I would say try this tutorial out. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a button-up shirt. I think it would be pretty neat to use a denim shirt or black shirt. I like purses that are plain and simple so I can wear with multiple outfits. I’m not a purse girl, but it would be neat to recycle old shirts into a handbag or shoulder bag. This idea is perfect to make for my little cousins or nieces because it’s playful. I would this is playful because it’s inexpensive and kids throw around stuff anyways.

Materials:

  • 2 old button-up shirts (one long sleeve, one short sleeve)
  • fabric pins
  • interfacing
  • iron
  • sewing machine
  • purse handles (leather)
  • scissors
  • zipper for sewing

Directions:

First, follow along with Ezi2Make Channel tutorial on YouTube for specific measurement sizes. Outline the size of the purse from the old fabric or the old button-up shirts. You want to cut out two same exact sizes then remove the buttons out of the shirt.
