Quilting-as-you-go is one of my favorite methods of quilting. With this wonderful quilting technique, you are able to quilt, sash, and bind a project at the same time. I love this method of quilting because it really makes your project move along quickly. Using this quilt as you go method has been extremely liberating for me. I used to spend hours at the sewing machine doing all my quilting steps separately and quilting projects were really taking a very long time to finish. With the quilt-as-you-go method, I can finish projects in one evening. I may still make quilts in the traditional method, but for now, I’m sticking with this easy all in one method of quilting.
In this wonderful tutorial by Not Your Mama’s Quilt Store on Youtube, you will be guided through all the steps necessary to master the quilt-as-you-go method. You will first start a sandwich of backing fabric and batting, then start sewing your quilt block pattern on top.
Then, the sashing and binding are made with the leftover seam allowances. You will take the seam allowances and fold them over, then topstitch them down. The same method will be used for the binding along the sides.
This method of quilting is so easy, the project just seems to make itself, I love it!
