If your jeans are starting to not fit you, don’t throw them away and replace them with a new one, especially if that was your favorite pair of jeans. There are also instances where you bought the wrong pair and can’t send it back. So here’s a solution by Downtown Tailoring on YouTube that only requires a few basic sewing tools and an elastic band. Proceed to read down below for the full instructions and watch the video tutorial as well.
Step 1
Draw a straight vertical line on the side of the waistband to mark where the side seams are, then start ripping off the threads on the waistband but not all the way, just rip about 3 to 4 inches wide, and then rip the threads down the side seams about 1.5 to 2 inches down. Sew the side of the jeans with a ¼-inch seam allowance, pivot, and continue sewing to avoid fraying.

Step 2
Cut the elastic band and sew them together to create 7 to 8 inches wide elastic, cut it according to the size needed for the side of the jeans, and make sure to add about 2 inches at the center of the sides measuring from the sewn seams. You can decide whether to sew the elastic horizontally or vertically. Cut another piece of elastic for the waistband, then sew it horizontally.
