I’ve already seen lots of different DIY projects repurposing old denim but I’ve never seen anything like this one here. I was immediately intrigued by the process and the quality, after watching the tutorial and trying to make my first pair of DIY slippers, I can say that it was worth a try. So if you’re looking for a project that is interesting but low-cost then you’re on the right track. This clever idea is from ART Thao162 on YouTube.

Materials:

  • Old denim
  • Old padded jacket
  • Paper
  • Mini binder clip
  • Patterned fabric
  • Chalk
  • Marker pen
  • Ruler
  • A pair of scissors
  • Thick foam sheet

Directions:

Step 1

Place your shoe on top of a paper and follow its shape with a marker, make another one but 1cm bigger, cut out the pattern, and set it aside. Take the bigger shoe pattern, find the center, mark, and place it on top of a paper. Mark 4cm distance on each side then make a line connecting it to the top curve. Use this pattern on the denim and cut it out.

Step 2

Cut the old jacket and take the padded part, then press thoroughly with an iron. Place the smaller shoe pattern on top, mark the outline, and cut. Take the denim fabric and press with an iron, fold one side, then put the large curve pattern on top and cut it out. Make two of these with the same pattern. Take the other part of the padded fabric and cut out two more pieces of the curved pattern. Insert the padded cut out under the fold of the denim, secure together using hot glue. Mark crossed diagonal lines at 1cm thick.

Step 3

Using the bigger shoe pattern, cut out a pair of denim. Join the padded cut out on its counterpart shoe pattern and hot glue together, then glue the denim top as well. Draw crossed diagonal lines at 1cm thick. Sew the line pattern on the denim sole and the curve denim. Attach the curved piece on the sole, hold it in place using the mini binder clip, then attach it using hot glue before sewing it all around.

Step 4

Cut a patterned/printed fabric 4cm wide, this will cover the edges of the slippers. Fold it in half lengthwise, press, fold it again then press. Insert the edges of the slipper between the fold, clip in place then sew. Get the thick foam sheet, outline the sole of the slippers, cut it out then attach it under the sole with hot glue.
