In a large bowl, add 1 cup of milk, 1 table of active dry yeast, and 1/4 cup of sugar. Stir to combine. Cover it with a cloth and allow the yeast to proof for 8 to 10 minutes.
Add 3 cups of flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Mix until a dough is formed.
Add 1/4 cup of oil and knead until just incorporated. Transfer to your working surface and knead for at least 15 minutes until it becomes smooth and stretchy. Alternatively, you can use a hand mixer. To check if the dough is ready, take a small piece and gently stretch. If it doesn’t tear, the dough is prepared. It should also bounce back when you press it gently.
Add a little bit of oil to the bowl and spread evenly. Place the dough and cover with cling wrap. Keep in a warm place to rise for an hour until it doubles in size.
Punch to remove the air. Flour your work surface and place the dough. Flatten with a rolling pin in a rectangular shape. Roll it and pinch it to seal the seams.
Grease your loaf pan, then transfer the dough. Cover and let it rise for an hour.
Place a large pot over heat and put a rack inside (to protect your pot, line it with salt). Cover and preheat for 10 to 15 minutes.
Make the egg wash. Crack an egg and a little bit of milk into a bowl. Beat well.
Brush the dough with the egg wash and place inside the preheated pot. Cover and cook on medium to low heat for 30 minutes until the bread is ready.
Remove the bread from the pan and place on a cooling rack to cool. Slice and serve.
