Simple precautions to prevent illness with COVID-19 is to wear a face mask, and it’s one of the best ways to practice being exposed by the virus. Cases all over the states has increased as the different phases have opened to almost 100% capacity. Face masks are being required, and it’s still smart to wear them. I live in Nashville, and it is now required to wear face masks due to the spike of coronavirus cases increasing abruptly. In this tutorial by Oh My DIY! on YouTube, it shows a new style of making a face mask at home. This is a great tutorial because she shows up close on how to create this summer face mask.
First, fold and measure the fabric to get the wide octagon shape. You want to use two different kinds of fabric, so one is the liner for the inside. Then, start sewing the two fabrics together around the rim. Make sure to iron out the fabric so it’s not wrinkled.
Next, make pleated folds onto the mask and iron them down while using fabric pins to keep them together. Continue to watch Oh My DIY! on YouTube, and follow the step-by-step process.
Overall, this is a cute design and I have not seen this style. Usually, it’s horizontal, but in this case, the pleated folds are vertical. It seems as if this style of mask is more breathable and less constricted. I will share this tutorial with my mom because she’s still constantly making face masks at home. I’m interested in having this style of face mask because it looks covered and fits well all over half of the face.
