Green Plants tutorial on YouTube comes out with many hanging plant basket ideas, but I thought to make a basket out of a fan grill was interesting. I have an old fan at home that doesn’t work anymore so that’s another reason why I was attracted to this tutorial. There are no tricky steps or special tools to make this plant wall hanging basket. I love how simple this craft is, and I have a lot of plants at home that would work well with this. This is not bulky or ugly DIY craft, and I like how it looks minimalist. This can be hung up in the middle of a room, corner, or against the wall. These work well with plants that do not require a lot of water, and I would use a spray bottle if the plant needed any hydration.
First, paint the fan grill with black enamel paint so it doesn’t look old and rusty. Then, place the plastic mesh halfway to the fan grill and use zip ties to keep it in place. Once finished, cut off the excess plastic mesh and zip tie pieces.
Next, stuff the fan grill with the sack piece and attach a rope to the top of the grill. Hang the final product anywhere and fill it up with potting soil and the plant.
Overall, this is a great way to upcycle an old fan by using the grill to create a plant hanging basket. This can work well with any plant, but I would recommend using green leafy plants such as pathos. Pathos would be amazing because it would be nice to have the vines drape out and down.
