Have you ever seen a wine perfectly balanced on a piece of wood online and wondered if it’s true? I have seen it a couple of times and always thought it was not real. Turned out, it was! It amazes me how a slanted piece of wood can hold the wine bottle in a tilted position.

If you want to test it out, here’s a tutorial by Oz Sawdust Makers. He has tested different wood lengths and angles to get the right numbers. Some video tutorials online do not specify the measurements, which can lead to a broken wine glass. You surely don’t want that to happen. It is very easy and fast to make. It will only take you a couple of minutes to finish one. Watch the video below for full instructions.

Cut the wood 300 mm long.
Cut a 40 mm hole into the scrap wood using a Forstner bit. It should be 190 mL from the bottom to the center of the hole.
To make it stand, the bottom should have a 33-degree bevel cut. Make sure it is 33 degrees, not 45 or 20 degrees. Sand everything well even the insides of the hole and the sides, then wipe with a dry cloth to remove any dust.
Test it out by placing a wine bottle.
You can finish them however you like. You can coat them with paint or water-based satin varnish. Make sure to dry them well.
