An outdoor cooler is something we all may need for Summer and the options in the stores contain an endless supply of portable coolers to choose from. If you would like to have a more decorative cooler that sits on the porch or patio, I have found this wonderful Youtube video tutorial by DIY Pete, that describes how to build a beautiful wooden cooler that is not only a great functional cooler, but also an attractive addition to your outdoor decor. I had seen one of these coolers at a party and I loved it, but I thought these coolers were really expensive and I had no idea that they could be made at home until I found this video. The instructions are really straightforward, and downloadable plans can be found on DIY Pete’s website link.
You will be guided step by step by DIY Pete to make this beautiful ice chest. The cooler just sits in the wooden box design and can be pulled out to wash. There is also a spigot on the side that provides easy drainage. The polyurethane finish really brings out the luster of the natural wood and provides a tough finish to withstand the elements, it’s called Helmsman Spar Urethane by Minwax.
The top lid to the Igloo ice chest is fitted and bolted into the wood casing, then attached to the bottom portion of the cooler with steel hinges.
This cooler is going to look so good on our porch this Summer, I can’t wait o make it.
