I’ve always wanted to buy a bed for my cats but they were too pricy so I always had a second thought about purchasing one. Luckily, I found this video tutorial by Crafty Queen A&C on YouTube. I never knew that I could make a pretty cat bed for under $10 using only materials from the Dollar store together with some jute twine.

Materials:

  • Plunger stick
  • 3 packs of jute twine
  • Floral wire
  • Mod podge glue
  • Beach ball
  • Wood board, about 1 ft long
  • Plastic end caps
  • White spray paint
  • Fabric, pillow & cat ears

Directions:

Step 1

Cut the inner circle of a wreath ring, then tape it to the beach ball. Water down your mod podge in a bowl, and set it aside, then lay some plastic around your work surface and tape it around. Submerge the strings to the mod podge water mixture, then tie them to the metal ring, and start wrapping around the beach ball making sure to tie each end of the string to the other side of the metal ring in a vertical manner. Wrap the second batch of strings horizontally while occasionally inserting through the vertical strings. You can also do it diagonally and create random lines around the beach ball. Once content with the coverage of the strings, start wrapping outside them until covered.

Step 2

Insert a bobby pin at the end of the string so that you can sew it through and over the metal ring to lock it in place, you can also use this method to fill in the gaps and spaces around the beach ball, and trim off any strays. Brush another layer of mod podge and let dry for 48 hours or 2 days. Remove the air out of the ball and remove it from the inside of the hardened twine bed. Shape floral wire to triangle, cut off to size needed, take some spare fabric and glue it on the triangle to form the cat ear, insert the excess tail of the wire, then wrap it around the ring, and apply extra twine around to hide it. Cut the plunger stick into three 5-inch pieces, then spray them with white paint, and glue them to the end caps. Cut the wooden pieces at a 45° angle, screw the legs to the board in a triangle shape, then staple the cat bed to the board, and insert a pillow for the cat.
