The Hand Tying method with yar is so easy and makes so much sense if you don’t want to spend a load of time quilting in the traditional quilt top first method. I love doing hand tied quilting, but I came to an abrupt halt when I actually had to place my batting inside my front and back together because they are a little awkward because they already contain all the stitching, so you may want to learn this method to ensure an even transition from block to, tie, and then to the blanket. I first got my front and back quilt top and quilt backing together and laid it on my batting that I had carefully stitched together.
Directions:
Sew your quilt top to your quilt backing on 3 sides, leaving one open. Then lay that on your batting, then trim off all the excess backing and batting.
Then hand stitch all 3 layers together all the way around leaving room to turn inside out.
Then turn quilt right side out.
Then thread a big needle with yarn and go through quilt as shown below. You then tie that off on an individual knot and do the dame throughout your quilt, this method is strong and functional.
I just love this method of hand tying, it makes for a very sturdy puffy quilt that is ideal for sleeping and holds up brilliantly in the washing machine.
