There are listed household items below that you can use to remove them from different surfaces, whether it’s indoors or outdoors. Step 1 – Eliminate moisture

Before you start getting rid of the mold, you need to eliminate any moisture issues at the source. Inside your house, repair any plumbing leaks and install exhaust fans in bathrooms, kitchen, or laundry room. You should also check you gutters and downspouts if they are clean and if the water is properly draining away from your home’s foundation.

Run a dehumidifier to keep the mold from growing.

Step 2 – How to remove interior mold

Before removing mold, make sure you wear rubber gloves, mask and goggles. You can use detergents specially formulated with mold-killing ingredients for hard surfaces such as tile, window sills, and cabinets, then dry them with a rag. Just be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions. When done, throw the rags in sealed garbage bags and immediately wash your clothes in a  separate laundry load.

For porous surfaces, like your drywall, use a rag to avoid damaging the surface.

DIY Mold Solution Using Common Household Items

  • undiluted white vinegar – hard surfaces in kitchen and baths
  • diluted bleach solution –  dilute the bleach as directed by the manufacturer
  • ammonia – mix a 50/50 solution and spray on the surface, wait 2 to 3 hours and rinse

Note: Never mix ammonia with bleach or other cleaning products!

Step 3 – How to remove exterior mold

  • bleach and water – apply a 1:10 solution of bleach and water to the surface. Let it sit for 10 to 20 minutes and rinse with garden hose.
  • TSP solution – mix TSP solution according to the product’s instructions and scrub the area with a stiff bristles brush and rinse
  • pressure washer – use it for large exterior mold area
