There are so many reasons to freeze bananas, not only does it keep bananas fresh for a prolonged period of time but it is the method that all smoothie bars use to make perfect smoothies without ice. I used to work at the smoothie bar at Central Market years ago and we had a big bag of frozen bananas that we would basically use as ice with all of our smoothie drinks because the banana acts as an emulsifier for the drink and gives it a creamy delicious consistency and really gives more substance to the drink. That is one reason that the idea of freezing banans is a super idea, but also bananas don’t have a very long shelf life and they get over-ripe very quickly, so the idea of freezing your bananas at the exact moment they get just to the ripeness makes so much sense because you can have the perfect banana available that will last for several months. You won’t believe how easy it is to freeze bananas and it’s definitely a food tip that you will want to try.
Simply cut your bananas in half or in small pieces and either lay them out on a piece of parchment paper or on a baking tray with some foil and freeze.
Then out them inside a zip lock bag and put back in the freezer. You can write the date on the front of the bag and any additional information such as how ripe they are, for instance, you might want to say a certain bag is really ripe that may be used specifically for banana bread or other baking needs.
All and all this is a method I will be using all the time because, I don’t even like to buy bananas because I feel so terrible if they go bad, freezing removes this worry and I can have them when I need them.
