Get your container and add two tablespoons of baking soda. Next, add one tablespoon of water. Mix it together using a fork or whisk. What you want to do is create a paste. This mixture will help to remove the stains. This amount is good for two mugs. If you are only doing one cup, use half of the mixture. If you are cleaning more than two mugs, you want to multiply the amount of baking soda and water.
Start scrubbing the mug using the abrasive side of the sponge and some paste. You will start to notice that the stains are lifting away and the paste turns to the same color as the stains. Once the mug turns back to its original color, you can stop scrubbing. Repeat with the other mug.
Fill a container with water. Dip the mugs to rinse and remove all the paste. Wash the mugs again with dish soap. Make sure that there are no traces of the paste, and rinse them properly. Dry them with a cloth or paper towel and they look good as new.
