Check the clean code on the item that you are cleaning’s tag. The cleaning code is usually a letter. If it’s a W, it can be cleaned with water; if it’s an S, it has to be dry-cleaned with a solvent. If it’s a combination of both; you can choose how you want to clean it.
Before starting to clean, make sure to thoroughly vacuum the piece. Remove the dust and particles as much as you can via dry vacuuming before getting it wet.

If it’s a water-based piece, combine 1 cup of rubbing alcohol, 1 cup of water, and a few drops of Dawn dish soap. This DIY cleaning solution is not only effective but will also not damage your piece.
First, spray the cleaner on, then scrub in with a soft bristle brush or a towel. After this, use a spotter machine or a carpet cleaning machine with an upholstery attachment, then thoroughly flush, working in sections, the entire piece.
Open the window when you’re cleaning or use a box fan, a ceiling fan, or anything that you have that will help dry the piece quickly.
