Making sure your silicone caulk is in place around the tub and plumbing fixtures really can add years t to the life of your home. Our bathtub was in great need of some caulk because all the edges had big gaps around it. I had put it off for a very long time and then I noticed some damp areas behind it where mold was about to start growing. So I went on a frantic internet search and found this excellent video tutorial by Tommy’s Yard on Youtube. Tommy takes us through his caulking method step by step and makes caulking so easy with his valuable tips.

Materials:

  • Silicone caulk
  • Tape
  • A caulking gun
  • A boxer cutter (to cut off the tip of your caulk)

Directions:

With this great method of Tommy’s, the caulk just glides on. There is no need to scrape off any overpours because of this layering of protective tape. the tape goes over and under where you want the caulk strip.

Apply tape in two layers before you caulk

When you finish, you are going to be amazed at how wonderfully professional this job looks and how easy using this method is.

A finished caulking job done well

This caulking method saved our bathroom because we did not stop at the bath. We did the toilet area and also reinforced the frail parts around the sink. This was such a helpful video and I’m so glad I found it.
